How the price works
A Tacyon server is $2 a month per server, which keeps your world saved and ready for whenever you come back. On top of that you pay 1¢ per hour for each GB of RAM, but only for the hours you're actually playing — and the first 100 GB·hours every month are free. So a small world played a few evenings a week usually comes out to just the $2.
A flat always-on plan charges the same amount whether your friends are on every night or haven't logged in for a month. When your group plays casually, paying only for the hours you play is far cheaper; when you play almost constantly, the two even out — and you're never paying for time nobody's playing.
Estimates only. The “typical always-on” figure assumes a mid-range flat plan at about $3/GB per month; budget hosts charge less and premium hosts more. Free allowance is 100 GB·hours per server, each month.
